Toothaches - When to Worry

Posted on 9/23/2016 by Janie Bell
A woman suffering from a severe toothache."Doctor, it hurts when I do this."

"Then don't do that!"

That joke is not so funny when you can't stop doing whatever it is that hurts! Tooth pain is usually not something that you can avoid when it starts happening.

Often, it falls under the category of aching that just doesn't seem to go away no matter what you do. Throw in a smattering of apparently random shooting pains and you have what a lot of people experience when they start getting a toothache.

Nevertheless, a lot of people remain hesitant to act on the pain and come into our office for an examination. The reasoning is, "Maybe the pain will just go away..." and that reasoning is not without warrant.

Sometimes aches and pains vanish after a day - sometimes they don't. So here is what you need to know when it comes to oral aches and pains.

How Long Has it Hurt?

It's safe to say that if you experience discomfort of any form in or around your mouth for more than a week then it's time to come in to see us.

If a minor pain arises one day and the next days it's gone, great! There is a good chance that you didn't need to come in to be checked out for that minor issue. When it is persistent, or unbearable, that's when you should call us and setup and appointment to be seen.

Can You See or Feel Changes in Your Bite

When your bite changes there is a good chance that you ought to come in for a checkup. A change in your bite can signal an issue that is more serious than just your teeth moving around.

Schedule an Appointment With Us!

Make sure that if you experience pain or discomfort, contact our office at (425) 502-5867. If you are in pain, we will do our best to get you in same day to see what we can do to make you more comfortable.
