Cleaner, Fresher Breath

Posted on 8/15/2016 by Janie Bell
A woman suffering from severe bad breath. We all know when a person has breath that is not fresh, and our biggest fear is that it is us. The gum and mint industry also knows the importance of good breath, it is a multi-billion dollar industry. How can you have fresher breath and a cleaner looking mouth?

Hygiene

Setting a solid daily hygiene routine is a good first step to fresher breath. Yucky smelling odors often begin with remaining bacteria from food particles.

These food particles blend with your saliva forming a paste like substance known as plaque. Plaque is a sticky white looking substance that can rest along the rim of our teeth along the gum line.

Plaque can have a rancid smell, as the food particles begin to decay. If left in place, the plaque will dry and harden into tartar, sometimes also referred to as calculus. This hardened material is difficult to remove, and continues giving off a rancid smell which contributes to bad breath. By brushing twice a day, and flossing to remove stuck food debris from between your teeth, you are helping your mouth stay considerably fresher.

Mints, Gum, and Mouthwash

Mints and gum can help hide the odors in your mouth from food that you consumed that day. If you are concerned about the onions you had for lunch, these products will help. Chewing gum will not remove tartar buildup, but it can help disguise the odors. Mouthwash kills bacteria, along with that it kills odor causing bacteria, freshening your breath.

These products are often used for bad breath and are effective in the short term. Gums and mints have many benefits, but be aware of the added sugar you are placing on your teeth, sugarless is always recommended by your dentist as being the better alternative.
